New "Laphelle" Music!

Okay, so it's not actually Laphelle playing, but it's still some gorgeous new violin music by one of my fave violinists, Lindsey Stirling! Enjoy!

A Wonderful Anime Film!

I watched this film this weekend at the Modern. In August they do a little anime film festival. It was a great movie. I recommend it to everybody!

Sleepy Kaiser

It's so danged hot right now, and the heat makes all of us want to take a nap. Little Kaiser is relaxing in the air conditioning. :)

The Hateful Eight

I just wanted to pop in to recommend a movie I watched last night. I got it from Redbox. It's Quentin Tarantino's eighth film, The Hateful Eight.

I was interested to hear the award-winning soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, but I was worried that the film itself was going to make me fidget in my seat with anxiety like Inglourious Basterds did. So I prepared to just sit with my laptop and only half-watch it just in case it made me too uncomfortable.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised! Don't get me wrong - there are some uncomfortable moments, true to Tarantino form, and the way he likes to build the tension. But there was something that was really fun and theatre-like about it. I felt like I was watching a play.

Clocking in at almost 3 hours, it is a movie you might have to watch in installments. We watched half before we went out to dinner and finished it when we got back. That worked out really well.

Also, there is some violence (duh - look at the director), but it's the sort of outrageous, over-the-top type violence that I can handle. It also sort of reminded me of Reservoir Dogs. So if you liked that one, you'll probably also like this one.

Overall, I'm glad I gave it a chance! Here's a bit of that award-winning soundtrack I was telling you about:

And here's a clip from the beginning of the film to whet your appetite :)

If you watch it, let me know what you think!

Main Street Arts Festival 2016!

This year's Main Street Arts Festival was just as fun as every other year, and this year perhaps even more!

Drew and I had such a good time, especially because we got to share it with my dad, Diane, and Steve.

Me + Drew

Dad + Diane

Steve + Diane + Dad

We found some great art this year for the house, including this beautiful glass piece by artist Andrew Shea.

artist Richard Hall

Since it's Drew's birthday weekend, Diane was sweet enough to treat him (and me!) with some extra pieces for the house, these two prints:

artist David Frohbieter

And these three pieces, which are so fun! I love how they're posing with the big eyeball statue that recently made its way around the Metroxplex!

We also got to see performer "Dizzy Hips" do a hula hoop show. You can see him on the Steve Harvey show in the clip below. (By the way, he's a record-holder in the Guiness Book of World Records because of his tire hula hooping ability!):

We also got to see a band called Squonk (name based on an old Genesis song) perform. They were really groovy! Here is a clip that I found on YouTube. I didn't film this, and it was taken at a different art festival, but you'll be able to get the idea.

I'm already looking forward to next year! :)

Oscars 2016!

Another crazy year at the Oscars is crossed off my To-Do list! It's pretty clear who Misty dressed up as, but can anyone guess who my movie character was??

I'll give you a hint: "This one goes up to eleven!"
